Dr. Bob Dannatt

Bob Dannatt is the founder of AVISE.

Bob Dannatt’s work experience and qualifications encompass professional engineering, aviation, and academia.  His aviation experience includes that of professional pilot, safety regulator, airways surveyor, and safety consultant.  Bob combines his practical aviation experience with an academic interest in aviation safety, specialising in risk and safety management.   

Bob’s piloting experience covers a wide range of fixed wing aircraft extending from high capacity jet transport aircraft, through high and low capacity turboprops, to small piston engine aircraft – both twin and single, gliders, and military fighter aricraft.           

Twenty years as an aviation safety regulator included work on aerodrome standards, navigation aids, development of flight procedures, and experience as a safety auditor and manager.  This is complemented with experience in consulting and auditing in the private sector.  Consulting work has covered both rotary and fixed wing operations including offshore work and aerial survey as well as charter and RPT operations.    

Bob developed and taught the unit ‘Risk and Safety Management’ for the MBA program at the Graduate School of Business, Curtin University, Australia.  In year 2004 Bob was appointed as Adjunct Professor. Also in that year he was awarded a research grant by ATSB to study safety 'institutional resilience' at twelve domestic and overseas airlines.  The report can be viewed on the ATSB website.

This wide experience as an engineer, aviator, regulator,  manager and sessional academic,  is supported by expert knowledge in risk management, organisational accidents, safety management systems, system safety, threat and error management, safety regulation, standards, and industry 'best practice'.

Capt. Kerry Lovegrove

Kerry Lovegrove is an Avise associate with qualifications and experience ideally suited for the role of aviation safety auditor and aviation adviser.

Professional Experience

Kerry’s aviation career spans 44 years and during this time as a professional pilot, he has worked with airlines, general aviation and as a contractor in defence force operations.

Kerry has experience as a safety regulator and in this capacity, he conducted safety audits of AOC holders on a regular basis, flight-testing and surveillance of pilots engaged in a variety of air transport activities and conducted investigations of accidents, incidents and issues of non-compliance. The role also included search and rescue operations in departmental aircraft.

Kerry has held a grade 1 Instructor Rating and was an approved check and training captain on various aircraft types for over 20 years.

As a safety consultant, Kerry combines his practical aviation experience with managerial and safety system skills.

Since 1991, he has been employed as Chief Pilot for a major Australian aviation organisation and in this role he was responsible for the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures for specialist flight operations.

Other areas of expertise include CRM and human factors incorporating fatigue risk management, with a special interest in the study and understanding of organisational accidents, safety management systems, system safety and threat and error management (TREM).
15 years in this role has given Kerry a very broad knowledge of regulations associated with aircraft operations both within Australia and at overseas destinations.

Kerry is an experienced auditor with training as an AS/ISO 9001 quality auditor.

Capt. Peter Griffin

Peter Griffin is an AVISE associate. Peter's principal areas of expertise are in corporate jet operations; crew standards including training and checking; safety management systems; and the management and operation of aircraft. Peter has wide experience in safety auditing and is expert in the aviation legislation. Widely known and respected throughout the aviation industry in Western Australia, the Middle East and Singapore, Peter has a unique knowledge of the conduct and management of charter, corporate and aerial work operations.

Professional Experience

Initially trained as an engineering draftsman before joining RAAF as direct entry aircrew.

After graduating as a pilot flew with fighter squadrons in Australia, Malaya and Thailand on Vampire and Sabre aircraft. Completed many specialist courses including flight instructor course and  subsequently instructed for nearly three years on Vampire aircraft at RAAF Pearce.

Joined McRobertson Miller Airlines and flew throughout Western Australia on DC3 and F27 aircraft.  

Served for nearly 20 years as an Examiner of Airmen for the Western Australian Region of the Civil Aviation Authority and its predecessors with responsibilities ranging from aircrew licensing, airport and airways standards to the supervision of flying school, charter, supplemental airline and corporate operations with emphasis on:

  • training and checking of Departmental pilots on Merlin III and Turbo Commander turbo-props from 1971 to 1987

  • supervision and checking of supplemental airline training and checking captains on a variety of turbo-prop types                              

  • supervision and checking of corporate training and checking captains on a number of turbo-prop and jet aircraft up to and including the Falcon 900         

 After resigning from CAA spent two years as Training Captain and subsequently Chief Pilot for Bond Corporation engaged in domestic and international corporate operations in Falcon 200 and 900 aircraft.

 Was responsible for the acceptance of two new Falcon 900 aircraft and the establishment of checking and training for a Middle Eastern Royal Flight operating throughout Middle East, Far East, Europe, UK and USA carrying members of Royal Family and Government Ministers. Over five years trained 13 pilots, three First Officers to command and two Training Captains and set up training systems to gain Cat II Approach and North Atlantic MNPS approval for all pilots

 For last five years has operated as an Approved Test Officer and Check & Training Captain for a number of Low Capacity RPT and Charter operators as well as providing specialist support to organizations such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations) and WA Police Service. Has also been employed by CASA for specific short-term projects and by mining and insurance companies to conduct safety audits on a number of charter and airline companies.

Alan Jupp

Professional Experience

Alan is AVISE’s airworthiness expert. With over forty-two years in the aviation industry, Alan has covered most areas of aircraft maintenance and regulatory airworthiness requirements.

Experienced on both rotary and fixed wing aircraft, Alan’s qualifications cover airframe and engines including Allison 250 B/C17 C and Allison 250 C20 Series Series; P&W PT6A and P&W PT6T Series; and Garrett TFE731 Series.

In addition to engineering experience and qualifications, Alan holds Instruments of Appointment issued by CASA to issue Certificates of Airworthiness, Export CoA’sw and Special Flight Permits (2005).

Alan’s experience extends to quality auditing, development and installation of safety management systems including specialist software, and investigation of incidents and accidents.

Maintenance and business planning have been significant strengths. Achievements include the design of engineering systems, forms and aircraft maintenance systems saving upwards of A$20,000 per aircraft type. Other achievements include the design of core features of a cost control system for all expenditures other than fuel and wages on a fleet of 50 aircraft – the company went form a loss situation to a A$2M profit in under one year.

Andrew Forte

Andrew Forte is a Western Australian airport consultant and chartered professional engineer who has provided specialist airport management and business planning services to airport operators since 1993 and to the aviation industry as a whole for over 22 years.

Mr Forte’s project management skills have enabled a diverse range of airport and aviation consultant commissions to be completed ranging from master planning, terminal facility planning, airport design, documentation and construction with a focus on regional airport operators.

Since 1996 his consulting business has expanded into South Australia through a long term contract with the Local Government Association for the delivery of aviation risk management services to aerodrome operators.

Trading as Airport Assist Pty Ltd, Mr Forte’s business has developed extensive networks and alliances that enable comprehensive specialist aviation consultancy services to be provided to meet a broad range of client needs.
